You may be familiar with the small ceramic figures from antiquity with a small man holding his huge phallus. This type of pottery was found throughout South America, the Middle East and all over Europe in ancient times. To draw a timeline from then to now, I made ceramic sculptures and incorporated dick pics that I received unsolicited. Receiving unsolicited dick pics has been a discussed issue over the last 5 years, and just this January (2024) the first person was convicted of cyber-flashing in England. So we know the depiction of the phallus then, which can tell us a lot about the society of the time when phallocracy ruled, a society or system dominated by the male and where the male gender is superior. And when we look at the ceramics, that I made now, we realize how little has changed or how some things never change. For example, that men, then as now, have always taken pride in their genitals.

With an actress from Paris, Marion Limosin, I created a surreal narrative of a young woman in the countryside, who is travelling and changing through different phases and lifes within the same body. We live multiple phases in one life and are constantly changing. These are all C-Prints I made in the darkroom in Paris, as it fits the theme of the first light creating something new and transitioning over time.

Monolith
15–06–2023
The sculpture is representing a monolith that embodies time and the perception of time. Monoliths are associated with sudden and random appearances, disappearances, and time travel when thinking of the movie "2001 a space odyssey (1968)". The monolith breaks open and offers an immersive and distorted reflection of oneself in the sculpture. On the outside we see portraits that are scans of my face. The scans are symbolic for the perception of time because, unlike photography, they do not capture the moment, but scan over a period of time.

Yawn with me

During my collaboration with MacGuffin Magazine I had the opportunity to work on an alternative issue of their magazine on the theme of "The Chain". As it was an online magazine, I was able to create moving images. During a workshop with photographer Charles Negre, I had the idea of filming people yawning and started the project with a self-portrait. Yawning is contagious and can set off a chain reaction. For the installation I asked more people to yawn with me on video. The installation shows six people yawning one after the other, triggering a chain reaction that may even have left the screen, leaving you with a yawn.

I used the photo book to connect with my three half-siblings who I didn't know before. When I was 17 years old my father had three more children and moved to Mallorca, which disconnected me from his life. I visited them and used the camera as a playful tool to get to know them. By taking self-portraits symbolising my intervention in their space and comparing childhood images with those of my three half-siblings, I documented this family story.
